Light and Camera Movement techniques:
The lighting in this film will be very important. During the first act of the film, it will take place during the day, so mostly natural lighting will be used, but diffusers will be needed if the sun is too bright. The second act of the film takes place around sunset/golden hour, so the lighting is a little more complicated. Whilst natural light is great at this time of day, it's a short window of time, so some warm LED lights will be used to help give the effect of golden hour during the shots when needed. The final act takes place at night, this is where the most lighting will be needed, with soft white lights used to replicate moonlight, and some artificial fog to give the scenes a sense of tension and mystery. The character uses an enchanted blade during the film, which will be made to appear as if it's glowing in post production, but in order to achieve the effect of the light from the blade bouncing off the surroundings a small practical light will be used.
As for camera movement techniques, I'd like the movement to subtly add to the feeling of the scene. During the opening scene when she arrives in town, the camera will be handheld but steady, following her at street level through the village and into the tavern. The fight scene in the bar will also have very smooth camera movements tracking her fighting technique, to reflect how she has the situation under control.
During the second act when she is hunting the creature, I'd like to use lots of smooth, sweeping tracking shots to emphasise the beauty and mystery of the location, and to give the film a grander sense of scale. It's when the monster begins hunting her that the camera will become shakier and less controlled. The shots during this sequence will be mostly tight close ups on her, not giving us a clear view of the creature, to help put the audience in her shoes and help them emphasise with her, as her fear will become theirs through the camerawork.
Filmed Test Scenes:
Sample Costumes:
Lucia - The protagonist of the film is a medieval monster hunter. Her clothing would be simple, practical, but somewhat unusual compared to the other people in this mysterious world. She would have a cloak with a hood, and various pieces of armour for fighting larger creatures. Her clothing should be dark and mysterious, as she doesn't want to stand out when roaming the wilds, but still needs to be ready for any situation.
Thug(s) - The thugs who attack her in the opening scene will wear dark, mostly leather clothing, with metal bracers and other pieces of simple, medieval/renaissance style attire.
Villager - The villager who hire Lucia at the beginning of the film will be dressed in plain, tattered brown clothing, typical of a poor person in the dark ages.
Sample Sounds & Music:
Music - "The New Order"
Sound effect 1 - Creature Roar
Sound effect 2 - Forest Ambience
Sound effect 3 - Rising Tension
Sound effect 4 - Medieval Bar Ambience
